All Things…

DrColler Faith

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”

Romans 8:28

What a statement that is, huh?

Do you buy it?

Paul is so confident in it that he says “and we know…”

No question about it. Totally true. 100%.

I guess there are some qualifiers built in – one on our end (love God), and the other on God’s end (be called to His purposes).

So, if things aren’t working for your good, are you really loving God? Are you not called?

It seems to me that if you love God, then you have also been called by Him. (John 6:44)

What are we to make of this then?

And what’s our “good?”

To always be healthy and comfortable? To be wealthy? To have everything we want?

Or is it something much deeper and more meaningful?

Perhaps Paul is getting a glimpse of God’s behind-the-scenes perspective as he writes this.

Maybe God is writing an incredible story through your life that touches a million other people’s lives and their stories in a million unexpected and staggering ways.

And the theme through it all is His love.

Maybe He’s weighing your suffering or even discomfort or inconvenience against a million good things that will be borne out of it and thinking, “Alright, my child, trust me in this.”

I wonder if in the end when He shows us what He wrote through our lives – how even our troubles and suffering created unfathomable waves of love and goodness that touched innumerable lives – will we still be upset about these “light and momentary afflictions?” (2 Cor 4:17)

I suspect we will wish that we had just trusted Him in the first place.

Do you love God?

Then this is for you.

All things are working for your good.

What an amazing hope and promise.

Let’s keep on rejoicing.
